Edamame beans sometimes referred to as vegetable-type soybeans. Edamame beans are immature soy bean pods that can be bought frozen at the supermarket. Some sell them as unshelled frozen beans that are easy to steam and add as a side dish to meals. If your edamame beans have not been popped out of the pods please be aware the pods are not edible, so you need to show your kids how to eat this snack. The beans need to popped out of the pods. These little beans are good for you - high in protein, fibre, and vitamin C. The shelled edamame soybeans used in this recipe were purchased frozen from the supermarket. https://www.newworld.co.nz/shop/product/5042072_ea_000nw?name=shelled-edamame-soybeans

Goat cheese is a nutritious dairy product that is packed with vitamins, minerals and healthy fats

Simon Says:
Take the opportunity to talk to your children about what they would like to have in their lunchbox. Discuss healthier food choices that will give them more energy for sport/playing and learning. Decide what will be in the lunchbox together.
Have your children help prepare their lunchboxes. Older children may be able to prepare most of their lunch themselves, while our younger kids might like to help with cutting up fruit. I prefer to prepare lunchboxes the evening before allowing time for my daughter to participate.
Think about incorporating dinner leftovers. This means you tick many boxes – saving some lunch prep time and providing a nutritious protein-rich meal in the middle of the day that keeps you going for the afternoon.

Small chilly pads and/or lunch boxes that are designed to keep food cool.
During winter perhaps use an insulated thermos container so in the morning you can pack hot food and keep food hot until lunch time.
During summer add a freezer brick next to foods like yoghurt, smoothies, cheese, meats and salad that should be kept.
If making lunches the night before, keep them in the fridge until leaving for school.
If you include leftover meals like rice dishes, cold meats and pasta be sure you pack a frozen ice block in the lunch box.
Ask children to keep school lunches in their school bag and ensure their bag is not in direct sunlight. Preferably in a cool, dark place such as a locker.

Life is all about the little changes - improvements - we make every day.

Hexton Bee Company Beeswax Food Wraps are a totally natural alternative to single-use traditional cling-wrap. Handmade with all natural ingredients including 100% cotton, pure NZ beeswax from their own sustainably managed hives, tree resin, jojoba and manuka oil, the wraps are naturally antibacterial and will allow your food to breathe, unlike plastic.
Their beeswax food wraps are natural, reusable and compostable. They also allow your food to breathe, keeping it fresh the natural way!
Use their reusable beeswax wraps to cover foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables, cheeses and herbs. They are excellent for covering bowls, leftovers or storing snacks and sandwiches.
Not only do beeswax wraps replace the use of plastic, they also help in preventing food wastage as they extend the life of food dramatically. Try wrapping half an avocado to prove it, they can last up to a week in a beeswax food wrap. https://hextonbeecompany.co.nz/collections/beeswax-wrap-kid-sets
